Montreal psychedelic pop outfit, Wizaard, bring the funk, disco, infectious pop, and weird rhythms like late-90s Beck.
Their latest EP, Supernatural Mystics, is all over the place, but not in a bad way. Big drums, spacey guitars, and acid electronic swirls co-mingle on each track as male and female vocals switch throughout.
Green Dollar Bills and Hugg are the standout tracks. Green Dollar Bills has a silky, sexy sound as Marie-Hélène Coutu’s vocals snake around a funky beat. All together, the track reminds me of Little Dragon’s recent work. Hugg is wonky as fuck with a weird pulsing beat, frantic steel guitar strums, and woozy vocals.
Supernatural Mystics is Wizaard’s third official release. While their other releases have a few bangers (listen to: Compund (Off Future) from Filthy Haanz EP and Mountain of the Underground from Starfish Buffet), I’m excited for their new sounds and direction.
